8 Things NOT Found In Hell, and Why You DON’T Want To Go There!

During this week of ‘Hellish’ fantasies, I’ve been pondering the truths of Hell. This is a topic we don’t talk much about these days. I think preachers have too long been accused of using ‘scare tactics’ when it comes to Hell, so they’ve shied away. But in looking at what God’s Word has to say about this awful place, I’ve come to understand that the truth about Hell is nothing short of frightening. Here are eight things I learned about Hell.

1. No Desire For Fellowship With Friends In Hell

I often hear non-believers talk about how they are going to have a big party with their friends in Hell, but the words of this resident of Hell tell a different story.

“He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father’s house, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ (Luke 16:27-28 NIV)

I’m so touched by the sincerity of the love this man expresses for his brothers. He even made a second plea for them …

Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’ “ (Luke 16:29-31 NKJV)

2. No Hope For A Cure In Hell

On earth, the believer may face financial ruin or failing health, but he has hope even in death.

When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous have a refuge. (Proverbs 14:32 NIV)

However, there is no cure for the sufferings of the non-believer in eternity.

And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ (Matthew 25:30 NIV)

“And they will go out and look upon the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.” (Isaiah 66:24 NIV)

If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched— where ‘THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED [see Isaiah 66:24].’ (Mark 9:43-44 NKJV)

3. No Unbelievers In Hell

On earth, some may find it difficult to believe in things that are not seen, but in eternity there will be no doubt about God or His glory.

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10-11 NIV)

4. No Water In Hell

There will be no means of refreshing in Hell … not even the most basic of refreshments will be available.

In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’ “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. (Luke 16:23-25 NIV)

5. No Rest In Hell

There will be no recess from Hell’s torture.

And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.” (Revelation 14:11 NKJV)

6. No Light In Hell

Perhaps these passages speak not only of physical darkness, but also of spiritual darkness.

And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ (Matthew 25:30 NIV)

These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever. (2 Peter 2:17 NKJV)

7. No Mercy In Hell

On earth, every person enjoys God’s tender mercies and receives a portion of His blessings … but in Hell, mercies and blessings are no longer available.

For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. (Matthew 5:45b NKJV)

8. No Exit Door In Hell

There is no escape from hell.

And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ (Luke 16:26 NIV)

Although There Is No Escape FROM Hell …

There is a way to escape hell altogether. His name is Jesus Christ.

God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT)

But unless you repent, you too will all perish. (Luke 13:3b NIV)

If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. (Romans 10:9-10 NIV)

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6 NLT)

Wow ! Only ONE of those reasons would be enough to want to avoid hell !
Hell is a subject that is today oft neglected – your post really brings home the very real torment of a ‘forever’ place where God is NOT !

  3. […] I’m also using this for my GratiTuesday post this week (even though I’m a bit early), because I am SO grateful that God is longsuffering and merciful toward us and our loved ones … always looking for a repentant heart … not wanting ANY of us to suffer the torments of Hell. […]

That should really give us something to think about.

I heard that since only Jesus can save human from hell, the people who dies without Christ will certainly go to hell, even they are having very very good moral nature, not doing sins, not doing anything harmful to others. Why God punish the good people in hell, only for not knowing Him, as a reason ?

  7. ru4real says:

@ Prabhu: Your question is one that is often asked, and rightly so because it is so very important. I hope I can explain it so that you understand better …

In the first chapter of Genesis, God’s Word tells us that HE created Heaven, and elsewhere in Scripture we learn the it is His dwelling place. Because it is HIS home, He gets to choose what He will and will not allow there. In Revelation, God tells us that He has chosen not to allow evil things to enter His Heaven.

But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
    ~ Revelation 21:27

His Word is clear that He wants His Heaven to be pure and undefiled, and that He wants us to live together with Him in His beautiful and perfect kingdom. Did you notice, in the above verse, that God says He will not allow a person who tells lies to come into His Heaven? I know you said you are a very good, moral person, who is not doing sin, but ask yourself if you have ever told a lie. Even a small lie?

    Or what about this?

Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
    ~ James 4:17

Have you ever failed to do something you knew you should have done? I think we would all have to confess that we have sinned, according to this standard.

So you see, it isn’t that God wants to send people to Hell, rather He wants to keep His kingdom beautiful, safe, and pure. That’s why He refuses to allow evil things into Heaven. Look at this verse:

Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death. Surely God will crush the heads of his enemies, the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins.
    ~ Psalms 68:20-21

See how faithfully God protects His heavenly home? I’m glad to know that He is determined to keep evil things out of Heaven, because that insures all believers that we will spend eternity in a home that is carefully protected by a loving God, who will not allow harm to come upon us.

How does Jesus fit into this picture? John 14:6 tells us that the only way we can get to where God lives is through Jesus’ sacrifice for our sin.

This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to ALL who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
    ~ Rom 3:22-23

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
    ~ 1 John 1:5-10

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send the Christ, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.
    ~ Act 3:19-20

Nice explanation. Thank you ru4real. Since I am from India, I am seeing a lot of hindus, muslims with good qualities. Someone helped me a lot ways as friends, but they don’t accept Jesus. So I asked this question. What can I do for them ? Anyway thanks for your nice & true reply.

Please will you help me? I beg you.

  10. Vacuum Energy says:

Thank you for this article! I am in complete agreement, it is Biblical. I thank God I never have to worry about Hell because Jesus Christ is my Lord/Savior and I am saved by HIS Blood!

I pray that God uses this website and this article to get as many people as possible saved from Hellfire. Jesus saves from HELL!

I am saddened that many professing Christians today deny the Biblical facts about Hell and teach things like universalism and annihilation, and act as if we who hold to the Biblical truth about Hell are somehow mean.

  11. Iemand says:

The God of the Bible seems more like a blood thirsty, psychotic, illogical demon. Lucifer seems more benevolent compared to this evil deity that the people that follow the Abrahamic Religions. I can understand and see why in the story of the bible that Lucifer would? rebel against the God of the Bible, I mean who wouldn’t rebel against such a lunatic monster? If the God of the Bible really does exist, I’d rather go to hell then be a mindless slave to him.

In the bible god says slavery, rape, torture, canibilism, child abuse is ok. God is also à mass murderer. Anyone who believes in this shit is? insane.

God is love, and doesnt make a BIG mistake to let satan fight against him … that would make god unperfect …

  12. ru4real says:

Vincent (iemand), I agree with you that God is love, that He is perfect, and that He does not make mistakes. But where we might disagree is that the God of the Bible made a decision that was perfect and loving when He decided to allow both men and angels (including Lucifer) to have a free will. I believe God did this because it would be unloving to FORCE us into doing His will.

Because the God of the Bible is perfect and loving, He teaches us what is loving and what is hateful by giving us ALL a conscience that accuses us when we do hateful things and defends us when we do loving things (Rom 2:15). That’s why all people (unless they have seared their conscience as mentioned in 1 Tim 4:1-2), feel bad about hurting others. If a person is hateful enough to continually ignore their conscience, it becomes seared, and they no longer feel bad about hurting others.

If a man or an angel chooses a hateful lifestyle, it is not because God isn’t loving, it is because that man or angel isn’t loving.

  13. ru4real says:

Thomas, I am willing to pray with you and help you understand Scripture if this is what you need help with. If I am not able to answer your questions, I’d be willing to point you to someone who can.
