The Best Kind Of Aggravation

Friend, Daughter, and Me playing Aggravation

November 2008: After a hard day of installing a slide in the tree house, the girls and I settled down for a friendly game of Aggravation.

“Friendly?” you ask.
Yes! Friendly … because “I” won! *SMILE*

Aggravation was my favorite board game when I was growing up, and I still have all the pieces in the original box! The box is dated 1970, and is held together with a fair amount of tape. I was in first grade in 1970, and I remember spending many hours with my family of four, playing cards and board games like this. Now I enjoy playing with my own family of three and whatever good company we can find. Ahhhhhh … life is GOOD!

Keeping it real,

NO Aggrivation when MOM wins, huh? smile…
I think board games are such a neat way to spend quality time with family…I’m sorry to see them being pushed aside in favor of hand held computer games!

  2. I love board games .. my favorite is Scrabble! My 7 year old is just starting to be interested in playing board games, I picked up Scrabble Jr for her so we can play together.

@ Julie: Yes! You know the saying … “If Momma ain’t happy, ain’t NOBODY happy!” I, too, am sad to see the loss of ‘true’ family time. Something very special happens when friends and family sit around the table and enjoy that kind of friendly competition.

@ Faith: I’ve always loved the game of Scrabble, but my spelling stinks so I never win! See “If Momma ain’t happy” quote above! GIGGLE

  4. Jen says:

I loved the game aggravation as a child. Our love to play board games also.

  5. This sounds nice! It’s good to spend relaxing time like this with your kids. I have yet to find a board game my children like to play but every year for Christmas I buy a new one thinking – this will be the one and it just collects dust until all the pieces are lost. I’ve never heard of Aggravation so maybe I will give this one a try next.

@ Jen: Game time really is a good time to catch the kids with their defenses down and get them talking without it feeling stressful.

@ One Mom: I don’t know if you will find Aggravation in the stores anymore. I haven’t seen it for sale in years. But it is a great game that doesn’t take a whole lot of focus to play … that way conversation can flow much easier.

Always been a Scrabble and chess player, though when I was younger my friends and family became enthralled with a game called the Ungame (don’t know if it’s available anymore). There’s no winning or losing with the Ungame, but what a lot of conversation and thought it generated. After all this time, we still talk about it.

  8. Bree says:

  9. I can’t wait until my daughter is old enough to play board games. Happy ATWT!
